Organizational Structure

 

SRIC is headed by an Executive Director, who is assisted by a Deputy Director, Programmes Coordinator and a team of researchers to implement various projects/programmes, as well as other administrative support staff.

1) Executive Director –  Col. (Rtd) JAW Kitiku

Col. Kitiku is a graduate of Cranfield University (U.K) on Disaster Management and Mitigation. He is also a graduate of Pakistan Navy Staff Collage, Karachi. Has both command and Administrative experience at senior levels in the military. At retirement Col. Kitiku was a senior instructor at Defense Staff College, Karen where he taught among others International Relations, and diplomacy and Maritime operations. He served as an assistant Defense advisor in London between 1980 and 1984. He is a co founder of Security Research and Information Center (SRIC) and is currently the Director of the Organization. He was among the team of experts who unpacked the Nairobi Declarations on SALW into the Implementation Plan and coordinated Agenda for Action on request by the Kenya Government. Also assistant manager of the research team that conducted National Surveys on the problem of SALW in Tanzania, Uganda, Kenya, Burundi , DRC and Rwanda; thereafter involved in the development and implementation of the National Action Plans of the said countries. An expert on human security dynamics and conflicts at both regional and international levels.

2) Deputy Director - Stephen Mwachofi Singo

Stephen Mwachofi Singo combines both academic and practical policy experience on Peace and Security issues, having worked for over seven years as Director for the Peace and Security Programme at the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR), a regional Inter Governmental Organization based in Bujumbura, Burundi. Stephen is a graduate of Moi University and the University of Nairobi. He is currently Lecturer at the Department of Political Science, University of Nairobi where he teaches Security Studies and Comparative Politics. Mwachofi is currently finalizing his Doctoral dissertation focusing on the Politics of Insecurity and Underdevelopment in Northern Kenya.

3) Programmes Coordinator- Mr. Leonard Kyalo Musoi

Leonard Kyalo is an economics graduate from Egerton University (B.A) and currently pursuing a post graduate diploma (PGD) in project planning and management at the University of Nairobi. He has also benefited from several short-term professional training courses, including Australian Leadership Awards Fellowship (ALAF), Civil Military Coordination Course (CIMIC) from IPSTC and Project Planning and Management (PPM) from Ms - Training Centre- Arusha. Mr. Leonard Kyalo has worked with SRIC in various positions for the last 10 years and climbed up the ranks to his current designation as Programme Coordinator. He is the current National Coordinator of the Kenya Action Network on Small Arms (KANSA) and the Chair of the Conflict Analysis Group (CAG) of the National Steering Committee on peace building and conflict management (NSC). Mr. Kyalo’s area of expertise and practice include action-oriented research in Peace, Conflict management and Small Arms. Mr. Kyalo is a co- author of a number of publications, including "A study of Crime in Urban Slums in Kenya (2014), "Nairobi Metropolitan Area, a crime Observatory Report", (2013), "The Reform Process in Kenya", (2012),“The Arms Problem in Trans-Nzoia County”, (2010), "Conflict dynamics in Isiolo, Samburu East and Marsabit South districts of Kenya”, a NSC/UNDP Amani Paper: Volume 1 No.3 June 2010. Moreover, he has also consulted for many national and regional bodies including NSC’s, KNFP and Cewarn. Kyalo is a board member of the Partnership for Peace and Security (PfPS) and the East Africa Action Network on Small Arms (EAANSA).

4) Senior Researcher/ Programme Officer - Thomson M. Muthama

Thomson Muthama is a Peace Building and Conflict Management practitioner, an experienced researcher (especially applied research in Peace and Human Security) and also a Leadership and Strategic Management expert. He has worked and consulted for a number of regional and national organizations as a data analyst including; National Steering Committee on Peace building and Conflict Management (NSC-Conflict Analysis Group) and Kenya National Focal Point on Small Arms and Light weapons (KNFP). Mr. Muthama is a Steering Committee member of Kenya Action Network on Small Arms and Light Weapons (KANSA) and also Conflict Analysis Group (CAG) of the National Steering Committee on Peace building and Conflict Management (NSC). He holds a BSC degree and a Post Graduate Diploma in Project Planning and Management (PGDip) from University of Nairobi and a Masters Degree (MBA) in Strategic Management. Mr. Muthama is currently a Ph.D. candidate in Strategic Management at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT).

 

5) ICT Officer - Samuel Maina

Samuel Maina is an experienced communications specialist and a digital security trainer. Samuel holds a BSc (Tourism) Degree from Moi University and a Diploma in IT from the Kenya Christian Industrial Training Institute (KCITI). He has also attended various short courses including a Training of Trainers on Digital Security of the Tactical Technology Collective and the UNEP training on Online Access to Resources on the Environment. Prior to joining SRIC, Samuel was running his private consultancy, Kijani Media Services, offering Communication and IT services to NGOs. He has held various positions including: Communications Specialist at the Crisis Response Development Foundation; Communications Manager at WildlifeDirect; Assistant Editor of Swara Magazine; and Communications Officer at the East African Wild Life Society.

6) Accountant - Jane Nyambura Wairegi

Jane is an Accountant by profession who has worked as an accountant and has extensive knowledge and experience in the accounting field. She has worked as a programme accountant with NGOs such as Organization of African Instituted Churches (OAIC) and also government sectors such as Postal Corporation of Kenya. Jane is also experienced in Auditing as she has worked in various audit firms like Erastus & Co. and Johnwillis & Associates.

 

 

 

7) Office Administrator - Caroline Samoei

Caroline has more than two years experience working as an office administrator. She holds a diploma in Purchasing and Supplies Management from Kenya Institute of Management (KIM). Caroline has also worked as a procurement assistant in University of Eldoret formerly Chepkoilel University College.
